Terms & Conditions for using FreeSoundTest at freesoundtest.com and its browser-based audio tools.

1. Using the service

These terms apply to your use of freesoundtest.com, including the Sound Test and Sound Tester. By using the service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please stop using it. You are responsible for choosing an appropriate device, obtaining any necessary permissions, and complying with applicable law. Read our Privacy Policy for information about data handling.

The tools are provided for general, informational audio checks. They are not a professional inspection, hearing assessment, medical service, equipment certification, or guarantee that your device works correctly.

2. Hearing and hardware safety

Start every test with your device and the website volume set low. Increase only gradually to a comfortable listening level. A percentage on a volume slider is not a measure of safe acoustic output: amplifiers, headphones, and speakers vary. Stop immediately if a tone is uncomfortable or you notice ringing, pain, rattling, or distortion.

Do not increase volume to chase a very low or high frequency you cannot hear. Prolonged or loud tones, noise, and bass signals can damage hearing and speaker drivers. Keep tests short, take breaks, and follow your equipment manufacturer’s guidance. Do not leave a test playing unattended or place a loud speaker close to an ear.

The 165 Hz water-eject pulse is an optional sound experiment, not a guaranteed repair or waterproofing method. Use it only through the affected speaker at low volume, never through headphones. Do not charge wet equipment; follow its manufacturer’s liquid-exposure instructions. Noise “burn-in” does not establish or guarantee a repair.

3. Measurement and compatibility limits

The microphone meter shows browser-derived digital levels in dBFS, relative to digital full scale. These are informational estimates, not calibrated sound-pressure readings in dB SPL or dBA. They cannot determine whether an environment is safe or meets OSHA, NIOSH, medical, occupational, or industrial standards. Use suitable calibrated instruments and qualified advice for those purposes.

Frequency response, latency, volume, and surround-channel routing depend on your browser, operating system, drivers, output configuration, and hardware. A stereo preview cannot verify discrete 5.1 or 7.1 outputs. A generated signal does not prove the sound reaching your ears is accurate. Visual latency checks and hearing-range acknowledgments are approximate and device-dependent.

4. Acceptable use

Use the website lawfully and without interfering with other people’s use. Do not attempt to break security controls, introduce malicious code, overload the service, misrepresent its results as a professional certification, or use it to record someone without the permissions required in your circumstances. You remain responsible for activity on your device.

5. Intellectual property

The FreeSoundTest name, original website content, design, and code are owned by their respective rights holders. Third-party software, fonts, and other materials remain subject to their applicable licenses. You may use the tools and link to our public pages. These terms do not transfer ownership or grant permission to reproduce or redistribute protected material beyond what a license or applicable law permits.

If you believe material on this site infringes your rights, contact us with the relevant URL, a description of the rights involved, and enough information to respond.

6. Advertising and external services

The service is intended to remain free with advertising support. Advertisements, when displayed, do not constitute our endorsement of a product or advertiser. External websites and email services operate under their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their content or availability.

7. Availability and responsibility

We aim to provide useful, reliable tools, but provide the service on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the extent permitted by law. We do not promise uninterrupted access, compatibility with every device, or error-free results. Features may change, be suspended, or be discontinued.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim implied warranties and liability for losses arising from reliance on diagnostic results, misuse of audio signals, interruptions, or third-party services. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights, warranties, or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including any applicable mandatory consumer protections.

8. Changes and contact

We may update these terms as the service changes. The date above identifies the current version; material changes will be made clear on the website. Continued use after changes take effect is subject to the revised terms, to the extent permitted by law.

For questions about these terms, contact contact@freesoundtest.com or use the contact page.
