Audio stays on your device.
All sound generation, speaker and headphone testing, and microphone/dB loopback diagnostics on https://freesoundtest.com/ and https://freesoundtest.com/sound-tester/ and the focused tests linked from our Audio Check hub run 100% client-side in your browser, using the Web Audio API and browser media APIs.
Zero microphone audio, voice recordings, or hardware diagnostic data from these tools are uploaded to, recorded on, or stored on any server, or shared with third parties. There is no audio-upload endpoint.
1. Microphone permission and recordings
Speaker tests do not need microphone access. Microphone testing starts only after you choose to enable it and grant your browser permission. Input levels, device selection, waveforms, and peak readings are processed locally. The five-second voice check uses the browser’s MediaRecorder API to make a temporary recording in browser memory for playback; it does not create a server recording.
Use Clear recording to discard a clip. Leaving or reloading the tester clears its in-memory recording. Stopping the microphone ends capture; you can also revoke access in your browser’s site settings. Your operating system and browser manage their own permission records.
2. Local storage and preferences
We use local storage under the key fst-theme to remember your light or dark appearance preference on your device. It remains until you change it or clear this site’s browser data. It is not sent to our server. The tools work if local storage is unavailable.
Volume, frequency, balance, and diagnostic results stay in the current page’s memory. Volume preferences are not currently saved in local storage and reset on a new page load. A selected surround layout may appear in the page URL, which you can remove or change. No audio recordings are saved in cookies or local storage.
3. Website requests and log files
Loading a website requires network requests for its pages, scripts, styles, and fonts. Our hosting or delivery providers may process standard access and security logs, including IP address, requested URL, browser or user-agent information, referring page when supplied, response status, and request time. These records help deliver the website, investigate errors, and prevent abuse. They do not contain microphone audio or the locally calculated diagnostic results.
Infrastructure logging and retention depend on the hosting provider’s configuration. We do not currently run an analytics script in the audio tools. Contact us if you need information about data associated with your visit; do not include recordings or sensitive information in a request.
4. Cookies and Google AdSense
The current audio tools do not set first-party cookies, and this version of the site does not load Google AdSense scripts. Advertising is the planned way to support this free service. If ads are enabled, the following advertising practices apply separately from the local audio diagnostics.
Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites. Google’s advertising cookies allow Google and its partners to personalize advertising using browsing information. Ad providers may also use web beacons, IP addresses, and device information for ad delivery, measurement, and fraud prevention.
This includes Google’s DoubleClick advertising technology, historically referred to as the DoubleClick DART cookie. Current cookie names and behavior vary by Google product, browser, and consent settings; this wording does not mean a cookie named DART is currently installed here. Other participating advertising vendors may set and read their own cookies when their ads are served.
You can turn off personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings / My Ad Center. You can also manage participating vendors through YourAdChoices and control or delete cookies in your browser. Opting out of personalization does not necessarily remove all advertising or all advertising cookies. Read Google’s advertising privacy information and how Google uses information from partner sites.
Where required, advertising storage and personalization must be subject to consent choices before activation. If advertising is added, we will update these disclosures and provide the applicable consent controls and vendor information. Ad services will not receive audio or diagnostic results from our tools.
5. Contact messages
Our contact form prepares an email draft locally. Preparing the draft does not submit it to us. If you choose to send it through your email service, your address and the message you include are delivered to contact@freesoundtest.com and processed by the email providers involved. This correspondence is separate from the private audio tests.
We use messages to respond to support, feedback, and privacy requests. We keep correspondence only as needed to handle the request, maintain necessary records, or meet legal obligations. Please do not send voice recordings, passwords, or confidential information.
6. Your choices and requests
You can test speakers without enabling a microphone, clear local preferences, delete temporary recordings, and manage browser permissions. Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of personal information, or withdraw consent. To ask about these rights or raise a privacy concern, email contact@freesoundtest.com. We cannot retrieve recordings that were never sent to us.
7. Children, external links, and updates
This is a general-purpose audio utility. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the diagnostic tools. A parent or guardian concerned about a child’s support message can contact us to request its removal, subject to applicable requirements.
External links lead to services with their own privacy practices. Changes to this policy will appear here with an updated date. Material changes to data collection will be disclosed before they take effect, with consent requested when required.
