FREE AUDIO TOOLS / A CLEARER LISTEN

Microphone test. Hear yourself clearly.

To test your microphone online, enable it, grant browser permission, choose the correct input, and speak normally. A moving waveform confirms that the browser receives a signal. Record five seconds and play it back to check clarity, background noise, and clipping; the recording stays in the tab’s memory.

What does my voice sound like?

Record 5 seconds, then listen back. Kept only in this tab’s memory.

This is a digital level meter (dBFS), not calibrated room loudness (dB SPL). Automatic gain and microphone processing can affect readings.

A SIMPLE START

How to run this audio check

  1. Enable the intended input

Press Enable microphone and allow access if prompted. Choose the headset, USB mic, or built-in input you actually want to test.

  2. Speak at your normal distance

Watch the waveform and dBFS meter while speaking naturally. Compare a quiet pause with a normal sentence, without tapping or blowing into the microphone.

  3. Record, listen, and clear

Record five seconds, then play the clip through headphones at a comfortable level. Clear it when finished and disconnect the microphone.

What does my voice sound like to other people?

A short recording lets you hear the signal captured by the selected microphone. Use a normal sentence containing both quiet and louder words, then leave a brief pause to hear the background. Listen for intelligibility, harsh edges, hum, or unexpected room sound. Keep your distance consistent while comparing settings.

Playback may differ from the voice you hear while speaking, and a meeting service may apply additional processing. This clip represents your browser’s capture path, not a prediction of how every listener or app will reproduce you. Repeat the check in the call application after making an adjustment.

A moving meter is only the first check

Activity on the meter means the browser receives a signal, but it might be the wrong input or mostly background noise. Speak near the intended microphone and watch for a matching change. A microphone built into a webcam can remain selected even when a headset is connected.

The meter displays digital dBFS rather than room loudness. Signals close to digital full scale leave little headroom, and a flat or harsh recording can suggest overload somewhere in the path. Lower the input gain or increase distance slightly, then compare a new clip instead of judging only the peak number.

Permission, privacy, and a clean finish

Microphone access is requested only after you enable the test. It requires a supported browser and HTTPS outside local development. If access was denied earlier, use the browser’s site permissions to allow it, then retry. Check an operating-system privacy control or hardware mute switch if the selected mic still produces no signal.

Recording uses a temporary in-memory Blob for playback. The tool does not upload voice clips or diagnostic results. Clear removes the clip, and leaving the page clears the recording and stops capture. Disconnect stops microphone input; it is a separate action from deleting a previously captured clip.

What your result may mean

A listening clue is a starting point, not a diagnosis.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Microphone Test: questions and answers

A few things worth knowing before you press play.

How can I hear what my voice sounds like online?

Enable the microphone, choose your input, and press Record 5 seconds. Speak normally, then play the recording through your preferred output. Listen for clarity and background noise. The clip is temporary and stays in browser memory; clear it when finished, or leave the page to discard it.

Is my microphone recording uploaded?

No. This tool processes microphone input locally and creates a temporary browser-memory recording for playback. There is no voice-upload endpoint or server recording. Sending a separate support email is a different action. The privacy policy explains those distinctions and ordinary website requests in more detail.

Why does the microphone meter stay still?

Check the input selector, browser permission, system privacy controls, and any hardware mute switch. A different app may be using the device, or the selected input may not be connected. Disconnect and re-enable the test after correcting the setting. A motionless meter alone cannot identify the exact cause.

Will this microphone test change Zoom or Teams settings?

No. Browser microphone selection does not configure another application. Use this test to check a local input and hear a short sample, then choose the same device inside your meeting app. Repeat that app’s own test because its gain, noise suppression, and communication settings may differ.
